Carbon Fiber Maintenance

With all the new super cars being released with loads of carbon fiber, the demand for that look on our daily drivers is increasing. Luckily, carbon fiber does not require as much care as the exotic cars they come on. All of RW Carbon’s carbon fiber parts and accessories are finished off with a clear coat which gives them a protective layer and a beautiful glossy shine. The clear coat used on our carbon fiber products is different than that on your car's paint. Due to this, your carbon fiber products will need more upkeep to keep them looking like new. The more time and care you give to your CF products the longer they will last.

Preventative Maintenance

When washing your car go ahead and wash your CF parts with automotive clear coat safe soap. For extra protection we highly suggest you wax your products either with a spray wax (if you are in a rush) or apply a coat of RW deluxe carbon wax. This preventative maintenance step helps to seal the clear coat from moisture permeation and harmful UV rays than can cause fading, cloudiness and yellowing. It will also rejuvenate the clear coat and keep that showroom shine. If you live in an area with extreme weather conditions, we recommend taking more time to maintain your carbon fiber parts and accessories. On average we suggest using a spray wax once a week and waxing them every 2-3 weeks.

To ensure the best care for your carbon fiber item(s) RW Carbon also recommends that you polish and wax each part by hand using a microfiber applicator pad (included in the RW CF Care Kit).  An orbital machine in untrained hands can apply swirl marks or remove too much clear coat. Once applied, let the wax dry in a cool, shaded area for about 10-15 minutes. For the wax itself we recommend using our specially formulated RW carbon fiber care kit. This kit includes everything you will ever need to keep your RW Carbon parts looking like new.

Corrective Measures

If the damage is already done, there are steps you can take to restore your carbon fiber parts to their former glory. If there are fine scratches, fading, cloudiness or yellowing occurring, then roll up those sleeves. You will want to use our RW polishing compound  in order to grind off the top layer of dirt and grime. Although it takes longer, we recommend doing these steps by hand with an applicator pad. An orbital can remove too much clear coat and will be hard to get into those tight places. Several polishing sessions may be necessary to remove all the impurities from the clear coat. Apply each coat in a cool shaded area and let sit for 5-10 minutes before wiping off with a microfiber towel from our CF care kit.

Once you have spent some time cleaning up the clear coat with the RW rubbing compound, you can now start with the waxing process. Please refer to the steps above on how to properly wax your carbon fiber parts.

Warranty

There is no warranty associated with any of our carbon fiber parts or accessories. We stand behind all of our products with a fitment and quality guarantee. Please check over your item(s) before installation. We construct all our products with high quality materials, but if you neglect your new carbon fiber product(s) then they can fade and tarnish.
